  • Lubricating wire ropes can be challenging. Ropes with fibre cores are easier to lubricate than all-steel ropes. Consider field relubrication when selecting a rope for an application.

  • There are two types of wire rope lubricants: penetrating and coating. Penetrating lubricants carry the lubricant into the core of the wire rope while coating lubricants seal the outside of the cable from moisture.

  • Wire rope lubricants have two principal functions:

  • "In order to minimize resistance between the individual wires as they move over one another, it is important to reduce friction."
  • To provide corrosion protection and lubrication in the core, inside wires, and exterior surfaces.
